Validity and evidence

How long is the certificate valid?

The certificate of initial instruction pursuant to Section 43 of the Infection Protection Act is generally valid indefinitely, provided that it was issued properly before the employee started work. In addition, employers are obliged to regularly instruct their employees on hygiene and infection control. This legally required refresher training, also known as follow-up instruction, must take place at least every two years and is carried out by the employer.

No, you do not have to carry the certificate with you at all times during your working day. It is usually presented to the employer at the start of the employment relationship and stored in the personnel file. However, it must be available for presentation upon request by the employer or during inspections by the competent authorities.

Without valid infection control training or the required annual refresher course, you may not be employed in the relevant areas of activity. Violations can result in fines, consequences under labor law, or legal problems for the employer. It is therefore important to complete both the initial training and the regular refresher courses on time.
