Do you need infection protection
instructions?

German law regulates who needs a health certificate. The Infection Protection Act stipulates that an infection protection certificate is required when working in the catering, food or exhibitor sectors.

If you come into contact with the following foodstuffs in the course of your work, for example, you must present the certificate of infection protection instruction:
  • Meat and meat products
  • Milk and dairy products
  • Fish, crustaceans, molluscs and products thereof
  • Egg products
  • Infant and toddler food
  • Ice cream and semi-finished ice cream products
  • Seedlings and sprouts
  • Baked goods
  • Delicatessen, raw vegetable and potato salads

The following therefore applies: If you work in kitchens in pubs, restaurants, cafés or canteens, infection protection instruction is mandatory.

It forms the basis for the so-called health certificate. You will receive this certificate in accordance with Section 43 (1) of the Infection Protection Act if you have received infection protection instruction. The terms "hygiene instruction" and "health instruction" are also commonly used for this.

By the way: Infection protection instruction is essential for the above-mentioned fields of activity on the very first day. To save yourself and your employer high penalties, it is advisable to complete the instruction as quickly as possible.

Infection protection
instruction: the process can be so lengthy

Do you need an infection control briefing as soon as possible in order to start your new job? But the authorities are taking far too long and you can't get an appointment with your doctor?

As the process leading up to the health certificate can be lengthy and complicated, many of those affected are inclined to simply start work and submit the instruction in accordance with the Infection Protection Act later. However, this is not permitted and can have serious consequences.

Even if your employer urges you to work without a health certificate, for example due to staff shortages, this can have serious consequences. Therefore, play it safe and look for an alternative way.

But what if these options take too long? For this reason, there are online portals for infection protection instruction.
